Under the hood
Rain Check hosts six Kindling Pools on its own domain, joined by one link posted in its Discord server and by nothing else. Here is how people join, how game night survives the server, every setting and file, and what the v0.1 schema cannot say yet. Rain Check and its people are invented. Kindling has no affiliation with Discord.
In plain words
One link, posted in the server, opens a page on our own domain. A member gives the address of their own page; the Pool sends the handshake to the email on that page §5.2 §4.2. Nothing flows the other way: no member list, no handles, no roles, no messages are ever taken from the server.
Rain Check: Everyone, one Pool for each town’s Thursday table, and one for Big Game Day. All are public and universal-opt-in §3.2, all are in our discovery file §8.3, and a yes to one says nothing about another.
Each table’s host keeps that table’s Pool, with a co-keeper, so no Pool rests on one person and co-keepers are first in line if one is ever needed §9.3. Fern and Rashid keep Everyone. A role on the server has no weight here, because a Pool has no field for one.
Every host writes to their table each Monday, one email per person, through the table’s Pool §6.1. It goes out whether the server is busy or gone. People write to each other the same way, by each person’s own rules {sec("7.2")}.
Each Pool asks senders to be at least email verified §3.3. Past that, each person’s page says who may write to them: Pip, for one, only takes messages from people in a Pool with her. Both block lists apply everywhere §7.3.
A snack jar on each table, and a yearly chip-in for the domain and the web host where these files live. Nothing at the connection layer is charged for §1.3.

Honest limits
Where the specification text and a schema disagree, our JSON follows the schema. These are the gaps that touch Rain Check. The first six are about a community that talks in one place and gathers in another.
A parsed profile’s contact_methods can be email, a handful of named social sites, url or other §2.4. A chat handle could only go in other, nothing would prove it is yours, and nothing ties a person in the server to an entry in a Pool. We do not ask for handles, and we think that is right; but a client cannot say “this is the Fern you know from the server”.
A manifest has curators, with one primary flag, and entries §3.2 §3.4. There is no field for a host, a moderator, a teacher or a new player, and no way to split a Pool into rooms. So each town’s table is its own Pool, each host is a curator of it, and nothing but our domain and our discovery file says the six belong together.
§5.2 begins “A Curator submits a Profile URL”. Our link lets a member submit their own page; the request still names Fern as curator_identity, and consent_proof.method records email-link or oauth, not that the person asked first.
A manifest has created_at and updated_at §3.3. “Thursdays at 6:30” and “the second Saturday” live in names, charters and governance_rules. A seat at a table is a yes to that Pool, not a reply for Thursday; v0.1 has nothing for one.
A parsed profile may carry a city, a region and optional lat and lon; a Pool’s geographic_scope is a city, a region or online §3.3. There is no radius. We measure between the towns on people’s pages and never ask for more.
§5.2 says the 14-day window is “configurable per Pool”. There is no field, so each request carries it in expires_at. We use the default.
§4.5 names email-verified, oauth-verified, curator-vouched and unverified. The schemas say email, oauth, curator-vouched, unverified and cryptographic, and a curator can only be email, oauth or cryptographic. Our JSON follows the schemas; our pages use the words.
§6.3 lists handshake-request, handshake-response, intro and reply. The schema adds withdrawal and system, which our leaving and Monday messages use.
§6.2 calls the Pool reference pool_ref; the schema calls it via_pool. §12.1 names kindling_version; every schema uses schema_version. §10.2 names pool_url and a per-Pool curator_contact; the well-known schema uses manifest_url, with one contact on operator. Our JSON follows the schemas.
§2.3 names extraction_source, but the parsed-profile schema has no such field and forbids extra ones. A card on our wall cannot say which lines were marked up and which were inferred.
